I started developing games in 1997 using Clickteams Klik & Play, which I had found in a local pc store. For game development I have always sticked with Clickteam products. My first finished game was Fishhead and the evil Highhair, which was "released" early 1998 on a floppy disc. It was of course barely playable. My first playable (yet still buggy) games were Fishhead 2 (2002) and Fishhead 3 (2003). After these games, which relied on a combination of bad pixel art, Photoshop filters and some prerendered backgrounds, I started taking an interest in actual pixel art. After a lot of practise I could make graphics that were actually more or less pleasing to me.
Around this time I started my serious career as a history teacher, which took so much time that I did not have much left for game design. Recently I started working a little less and picked up this great hobby again. Roving in the Dark, which I had worked on every school holiday, was finally done after 8 years. This is the first game I made that I consider pretty good. In the next couple of years I will focus on actual game design. How do I make a game fun? What is good balance?
